Common Core Additional Resources

I know some parents are struggling to find additional resources that their students can use to help them with our new Common Core 7 curriculum.  While my links on the side of my post are not specifically geared toward common core, they are helpful in learning the skills that are required as part of the common core curriculum.

I would also suggest...

IXL.com  This is a great site to use for practice problems.  You can go to the site, click on standards, find Maryland, click 7th grade, and then scroll through a list.  If you hover the mouse over the topic, it will bring up a pop up window that shows an example of that skill.  The site will allow so many free problems per day, before it ends your session and asks you for a subscription.  If you do not want to buy a subscription, I would suggest using your free problems daily, then just visit the site on another day to receive more free problems.

KhanAcademy.org  This site shows videos on how to perform certain skills.  If you are having trouble solving 1-step equations, then just enter "one step equations" in the search box and it will bring up several videos that you can watch.  It's like having a teacher/tutor available 24 hours a day in case you get stuck solving homework.  This site is completely free!!!

Don't forget you can also use the blue math text book, Transitions in Math II, that I sent home in the beginning of the year.  Since this book is not common core aligned, we are using it more like a dictionary or an encyclopedia than an actual text book.  Use the index in the back to find the skill your student is struggling with and then go to that section in the book.  Read the examples and then have your student try solving an odd problem - the answers for the odds are in the back of the book.
